Once known as THE summer destination for America’s wealthiest families, lovely Newport RI exudes New England preppy rather than New York trendy.
But much to my surprise, I stumbled upon this cool urban backdrop in the middle of the beach and this pairing of opposites inspired the look and feel of this shoot.
Beyond the sand and sea, against the background of this graffiti vignette, I wore a silk floral maxi dress, which I unbuttoned at the waist, leather pants, and black lace-covered platforms (a nod to the goth trend)…offsetting the “softness” of the floral print with a rocker twist. I styled the outfit with a leather obi belt…. it breaks up the pattern, helps to shape the silhouette and create an instant hourglass figure. Lastly, I added small but important details… a clear acrylic clutch and my favorite gold fringe cuff for both structure and movement. The pairing of these opposites should be as unexpected as finding this bit of urban in scenic Newport!
