And this time, it’s a good thing! One of my favorite trends right now is the cropped wide-leg. Pants, culottes, jeans, jumpsuits — all of these options are great for the transition months ahead. As we greet September, it’s important to dress for the appropriate weather. When you wake up in the morning to 60 degrees and by lunch it’s nearly 90, breathable and versatile garments are a must. You don’t want to be caught swishing down the sidewalk in a wool palazzo during the sun’s hot cameo on a rainy Tuesday. At the same time, a mini skirt isn’t exactly the prime choice for a breezy morning commute. Enter: the cropped pant.
When it comes to closet staples, I’m a big believer in a few things: high-waisted denim, a little bit of sequin and sparkle, statement jackets, and of course – animal print. A bit less traditional than the “you need a beige trench coat in your closet” mantra, but trust me – these are just as useful, if not more so. I mention these particular items because of the versatility factor. Versatility is a quality that I look for when shopping, because it means that I’m able to get the most for my money and style the items in multiple ways, for different kinds of occasions and seasons. They’re timeless pieces that stay relevant despite ever-changing trends. They’re styles that I feel comfortable investing in for the long run. And one of my most recent animal print purchases from Alice + Olivia has my heart purring.
In a contemporary and modern world, one finds a bit of nostalgia in vintage pieces. And when one doesn’t find what she’s looking for in a vintage shop, vintage-inspired items can be just as great! This look was inspired by the Fauna & Flora collection from Couture Dossier, an incredible and one-of-a-kind store in Greenwich, CT. The capsule collection contains a beautiful mix of eye-catching patterns and summertime aesthetics with an over-arching theme of the All American Girl. I can’t imagine picking a favorite piece from the collection, however, this red cardinal skirt is up there for my favorite statement piece. (Did I mention that it has pockets.)
How wonderful it is to be home for a while after weeks of traveling. Just like my home is cozy, comfortable, and familiar, those feelings were the inspiration for this week’s look. While I’m all about trying new things, it’s called signature style for a reason. My ’70s-inspired boho look is unmistakably my own with wide leg jeans, an embroidered balloon sleeve blouse, and a unique handbag that I brought back from my last trip to Mexico.
