We’ve sure had our fair share of April showers in NYC this spring. And as the old saying goes, May flowers should be right around the corner. If waiting for daisies to break through the ground is a little too slow-paced for your taste, you can don your own flowers this spring in a myriad of ways! Your favorite brands are getting spring fever too, with florals on every rack and in every window. Miranda Priestly may scoff at the age-old motif, but florals are a timeless staple for good reason. Brands like DVF, Gucci, Erdem, and Alice + Olivia have dozens of floral patterns for you to choose from this spring, as well as a wide range of silhouettes and materials for variety.
Without the constant magic and joy that NYFW provides Manhattan, the city reverts to its default for mid-February — a bleak, gray winter. To escape the seemingly endless gloom and cold winds, I recently hopped on a plane to visit some of my favorite spots in Miami and inject some sunshine back into my daily routine. Not only was this trip filled with blooming plants and fresh air, but I also took full advantage of the humidity and warmer temperatures by pulling out some of my favorite seasonal transition garments. When it’s too warm for sweaters but not quite time for mini skirts, I tend to find myself wearing long, breezy ensembles that I can feel confident in – despite unpredictable weather.
It’s Saturday morning and you’re window shopping before late brunch. As you hop from boutique to boutique with no real intent to make a purchase, you see it. There it is, glimmering in an imaginary celestial spotlight: the perfect staple piece. It’s from a brand you know and love, and you can picture yourself wearing it a dozen different ways over the next decade. You know you’re going to buy it as soon as it slips over your shoulders in the dressing room, and you mentally start making space in your closet. The timeless, yet modern, staple piece.
