Still basking in the glory that is New York Fashion Week, I’m filled to the brim with outfit inspiration and already looking forward to trying these trends out for myself. Every year, Fashion Week is sprinkled with a few key trends that hit nearly half of the runway shows. This year, designers like Versace, Michael Kors, Fendi, Miu Miu, Balenciaga, and more have all boarded the S.S. Check, utilizing patterns like tartan, gingham, and glen plaid to name a few. Leaves are falling, school buses are running, and pumpkin spice lattes are back….it’s sweater weather, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic! Cable knits, turtlenecks and shaggy cardigans will all debut from my closet this fall, but on the first breezy day this year, I was excited to don something a little different: the varsity sweater. Iconic and timeless, the varsity sweater has been around for decades. Designers reinvent the iconic style year after year with their signature twists, so it was only a matter of time before one of my favorite brands (Alice + Olivia) joined the club.
Picture it: the sea wind occasionally lifting your hair, the sun gently touching your shoulders, and the brief thought, “Wow, I look great” when passing a store window along cobblestone side streets. An ideal day, no? For many, vacation is the perfect excuse to lie back in pajamas and sip tea in front of HGTV. For me, it’s the ultimate opportunity to play dress up and snap a few photos. In a contemporary and modern world, one finds a bit of nostalgia in vintage pieces. And when one doesn’t find what she’s looking for in a vintage shop, vintage-inspired items can be just as great! This look was inspired by the Fauna & Flora collection from Couture Dossier, an incredible and one-of-a-kind store in Greenwich, CT. The capsule collection contains a beautiful mix of eye-catching patterns and summertime aesthetics with an over-arching theme of the All American Girl. I can’t imagine picking a favorite piece from the collection, however, this red cardinal skirt is up there for my favorite statement piece. (Did I mention that it has pockets.)
