Volume & flair…

March 14, 2017

Say goodbye to gloves and scarves because as of  March 12, we have “sprung ahead!”  Spring fashion always seems to bring out the best in designers and they utilize the most creative materials and shapes for their spring collections. This year one of my faves is designer Layana Aguilar, of Project Runway fame.  Layana is a true success story exemplifying how hard work and determination can manifest success.

LA says that her “mission is to provide the armor in which women can present their best selves everyday while owning their individuality.” Her designs are a reflection of that. She really knows the woman’s body, and this skirt can make any girl feel confident when stepping out for an afternoon lunch, or for an evening on the town. I paired it with a ruffle top to show some depth and movement and it looks great tucked into a high-waisted skirt like this, but also pairs well dressed down with dark wash boyfriend jeans and sleek sneakers.

Because the top is such a statement on its own, I’ve gone minimal with the rest of my accessories. A simple chain necklace and studs is all I need to complete the look on top. For a bag, I’ve opted for this adorable beaded clutch. The applique trend is ubiquitous right now, and I think the little bee and ladybug are the cutest contrasts to the floral print in the top.

I’ve decided to stay dark and simple with my shoes — just an unexpected twist when you see nudes and pastels running the streets come spring time. I always like to make my looks stand out somehow, and between this gorgeous cutout skirt with mesh details, the trendy clutch, and the surprising footwear choice, I think I’ve got it down.
