When it comes to closet staples, I’m a big believer in a few things: high-waisted denim, a little bit of sequin and sparkle, statement jackets, and of course – animal print. A bit less traditional than the “you need a beige trench coat in your closet” mantra, but trust me – these are just as useful, if not more so. I mention these particular items because of the versatility factor. Versatility is a quality that I look for when shopping, because it means that I’m able to get the most for my money and style the items in multiple ways, for different kinds of occasions and seasons. They’re timeless pieces that stay relevant despite ever-changing trends. They’re styles that I feel comfortable investing in for the long run. And one of my most recent animal print purchases from Alice + Olivia has my heart purring.

A classic animal print like leopard can act as a neutral. Pair it with a macro print, or denim, or leather, and you have a myriad of outfit options for any time of the year. If you want to go cat-on-cat like I’ve done here, I suggest making sure the prints are exactly the same. (The fact that Alice + Olivia offers matching separates is one of the many reasons that I return to shop there time and time again.) This automatically gives your animal print a level of sophistication that belongs both in the conference room and on the dance floor. This silk chiffon skirt and blouse combo are gorgeous, light-weight garments for the hot, hot heat of both coasts in the summertime. The midi skirt has a sexy high slit, providing a break for the eye without taking away from the print itself. I’m all about the little details like that, so of course I’m a fan of the subtle ruffle sleeve on the top as well.
While this leopard duo is just right for a day out and about on 5th Avenue, I know that I’ll have opportunities to wear this top all year round. Come fall, I can see myself layering a chunky black sweater on top and pairing it with leather pants and black booties. No matter how I style these items, you can always count on me to add one consistent accessory – the pop of color. Here, I’ve opted for a Carolina blue platform sandal and belt combo. More of a canary yellow or emerald green fan? Those work with most animal prints, too! Playing to the primary color scheme, I’ve added a bright red clutch and a fire-engine-red lip. With a genuine smile completing this timeless (yet trendy) H2T look, I’m ready for brunch, work, and drinks!
