This look is all about the top! One of my favorite independent designers, Layana Aguilar, creates amazing pieces that are focused on depth and interesting dimensions. This flutter sleeve top with butterfly embellishments is a great way to make black work for summer. Black can easily look heavy and winter-y, so it takes a true artist to nail the black-for-summer look.
I’ve paired the top with a fitted midi skirt. The silhouette is a nice juxtaposition to the movement of the top. And the slit makes the look even more summertime appropriate. By choosing a print in black and white, the outfit doesn’t go to heavy. I could also pair the top with a streamlined white trouser, or light wash denim to dress it down. I wouldn’t choose anything too billowy on bottom, so as not to overpower the delicate details of the top.
I’ve completed the look with lace up sandals from Aquazzura. I love their shoes for their versatility and exquisite construction! Classic style while still being on trend? Yes, please. As for the rest of my accessories, I wanted to complement the whimsical elements of the outfit. The clutch is embellished with a sweet floral design, and my jewelry is an updated version of classic staples. Like always, the look is finished with a fresh manicure. White this time, to offset the black and draw out the light details in the top and skirt!
