Recently, I took a trip to San Francisco where I enjoyed architecture, sunshine, and West Coast style alike. Since I was working while in the city, I knew I needed to bring along some of my tried and true business casual staples. Without shopping for new pieces, I challenged myself to do what I encourage my clients to do all the time: mix and match pieces that are already in your wardrobe to create new and interesting looks. It’s actually much easier than it may seem!
If you’re anywhere on the East Coast, you’ve been experiencing Mother Nature’s indecisiveness for about a month now. Even if I wake up to 50 degrees, I have no idea whether I’ll be shedding layers or switching to rain boots by mid-afternoon. Frustrating? A little. The perfect excuse to start wearing all of my new spring buys? Absolutely.
With Thanksgiving upon us, it’s only fitting that I post about a piece in my wardrobe that I’m most thankful for — this embroidered longline coat from Alice + Olivia. I refuse to blend into the sea of black and navy coats and this coat is my hero piece of the season. Its bright hue, intricate detailing and flattering shape are just a few of the reasons that I grab for this outer layer from my closet time and time again. What’s more? It’s so cozy. And standing up to New York City blasts of wind is a must at this time of year.
Fall is in full swing and winter is just around the corner. That means that layering is my first priority when getting ready every morning. When I’m in California, it’s not as much of an issue, but New York City definitely has me thinking ahead about how I can be most comfortable and stylish with whatever weather the day may bring. One of my favorite ways to layer smart is to go for three pieces on top, and a long jean or skirt/tight combo on bottom. It’s an easy outfit formula that any woman can emulate from garments she already has in her wardrobe as well.
