Last week on the blog I donned one of my favorite fall staples, my embroidered pink coat. To keep with the theme of “Ode to the Holidays,” I thought for the upcoming Christmas season I’d celebrate with some sparkle! This week, I’m wearing my Alice + Olivia skirt in a favorite silhouette of mine — the pencil. The pencil skirt works as a great tool to elongate the legs, especially when paired with a killer heel. It’s a must to tuck in your top with a pencil skirt in order to show off your waist. When you do, it’s a great outfit formula for an instantly flattering look.  While most would reserve sequins for evening, I know that I can wear a bit of shimmer during the daytime as long as it is styled appropriately.

I’ve “dressed down” my sequined skirt with a simple tee and cozy cardigan from Anthropologie. I wore this look for a meeting with a few clients, and then to a blogger event afterwards. Easy, comfortable, and flattering! Perfect for all day wear. You could play with the red and marigold pattern of the skirt by bringing out those colors on top, or go completely unexpected with a different hue (like I did here.) Because the skirt itself is so busy, I wanted to keep everything else simple. As you can see, I skipped the necklace to avoid an overdose of shine. I did, however, add a trendy fringed earring for some extra flair. I always want every outfit to look complete from head to toe.

This skirt of course also works for evening time. I could easily pair this with a silk cami, layered under a sharp tuxedo jacket for a luxe look or under a cropped black cardigan for an equally cozy feel. I love this clutch for daytime because it’s easy to carry and fits all of my necessities. I’d definitely switch it out for an elegant crossbody at nighttime, or even an embellished wallet. But whichever accessories I choose, I don’t want to outshine the skirt. That’s the true hero of this look. ‘Tis the season to wear sequins!

Keep an eye out for the following weeks’ posts where I’ll feature a few more sparkles here and there. Maybe you’ll pick up a few ideas and be inspired for the holiday season as well!
