All New Yorkers have their most-loved spots in the city. The locations that make us want to slow down for a minute, take everything in, and enjoy the on-goings around us. One of my favorite locations in Manhattan is just about in the center of the island, where 74th Street meets the middle of Central Park. There, you can find the infamous Bow Bridge. Featured in movies like The Way We Were and Enchanted (among others,) the iconic structure has a timeless feel of romance and whimsy. Whenever I make my way to the park, I try to incorporate Bow Bridge into my day’s walking trail. As the year ticks on, the park takes on new energies and personalities, which is why I make a point to frequent it with the change of a new season. I thought that capturing a few moments with the bridge’s austere (and nearly centuries-old) architecture would be a great opportunity to showcase a bit of juxtaposition with one of my breezy summertime ensembles.

A silhouette favorite of mine, the high waisted maxi skirt, is the star of this impromptu photo shoot. What I love about the maxi is the simultaneous elegance and ease, allowing you to dress it either up or down. I’ve worn maxi skirts to weddings and weekend errands alike, and this gorgeous printed tie dye skirt is a brand new addition to my already-healthy collection. I’m not a big fan of traditional-style tie dye, so this more modern and feminine version from Alice + Olivia was a pleasantly unexpected find. I’ve tucked a staple silk cami at the waist – a favorite basic of mine – and layered on a denim jacket for when it cools down in the evening. As usual, I let the statement piece speak for itself and style it with supporting players, the tried and true closet basics.
A great perk to an outfit like this is that it’s flattering on most body types and can be put together using items that are already in your closet. It’s also appropriate for most ages and occasions, depending on how you style yourself. Dress down your printed maxi with a tee, crossbody belt bag and platform sneakers. If you’re in the market for a new belt bag, I love this crossbody option from Senreve. I chose red leather, but it also comes in a dozen other colors and a few other materials. (Only making me want 5 more of them.) Senreve also offers a metal chain strap separately, so you can dress up the bag when it’s time to go out for dinner! And of course an elevated bag deserves an elevated outfit, so dress your skirt up by pairing it with a bodysuit and slingback heels, or your new favorite off-the-shoulder blouse. Complete any of these outfits with minimal hairstyling and jewelry, and you’re ready for whatever a New York day has in store for you.
